The Awards

Teacher of the Year

The Award:
Each year since 1952, New Hampshire schools have taken part in the State and National Teacher of the Year Program. Educators are selected from any New Hampshire state-approved or accredited school, pre-kindergarten through grade twelve, if they are planning to continue in an active teaching status. The purpose of the program is to select a teacher who is worthy of speaking for and energizing the teaching profession, and representing the positive contributions of all teachers statewide. In New Hampshire, Hannaford Supermarkets is proud to partner with the Department of Education to sponsor the New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Program. With this program, we hope to:

  • create a positive, progressive image for the New Hampshire Department of Education's awards programs
  • recognize teacher quality
  • gain community recognition and support
  • increase networking and mentoring among educators
  • attract and retain quality educators, and
  • provide positive messages about the teaching profession.

It is the mission of the National Teacher of the Year Program to recognize and honor the contributions of the American classroom teacher. The Program is the oldest and most prestigious honors program to focus public attention on excellence in teaching. Now in its 58th year, The National Teacher of the Year Program, sponsored by the ING Foundation and Target, is a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers, in partnership with the University of Phoenix Foundation and People to People Ambassador Programs. Each April, the National Teacher of the Year is introduced to the American people by the President of the United States. Selecting a Teacher of the Year is an exceptional way to celebrate the many outstanding and dedicated people teaching in New Hampshire schools.

All activities of the National Teacher, and projects involving the State Teachers of the Year, are coordinated through the National Teacher of the Year Program.

New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Organization
The New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Organization is excited to be able to offer a Speakers Bureau to the people of the State. We encourage you to utilize these teachers to address your students, staff, community, or organization.

Collectively, this group brings nearly three hundred years of educational experience to issues facing our schools. These educators offer a wide variety of perspectives from different academic fields and grade levels. In line with our goal of working to improve education in New Hampshire, we look forward to meeting with students, educators, civic groups and the general public who share a common interest in understanding education and helping young people.

The Teacher of the Year Organization and the New Hampshire State Department of Education are pleased to be working together to make their services available. We share a common desire to serve students and to make New Hampshire a leader in the educational community.
